A Maple Leafs Foods employee is, according to this story, facing charges following an investigation into food tampering prompted by the discovery of syringe casings at a southwestern Ontario processing plant.
Maple Leaf Foods Inc. products were pulled from the shelves in November.
In November, Maple Leaf Foods officials contacted Waterloo Region Police to report three incidents of tampering that had occurred on Oct. 24, Nov. 2, and Nov. 3 at the processing plant in Kitchener.
In each case, employees had found a plastic syringe casing alongside food products in various stages of the manufacturing process, Waterloo police said in a written statement.
None of the syringes contained needles.
