Fraser Health spokesman Michael Bernard was cited as saying Tuesday that a mysterious stomach illness that crashed a family reunion in Surrey this weekend has been confirmed as the Norovirus, adding, "It's what our mom's used to call stomach flu."
Officials first received calls to the family gathering at the Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Camp in South Surrey just after 1 a.m. Monday, said Bernard.
On arrival, they found 26 out of about 140 attendees were suffering from symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, Bernard said.
Of these, 18 people - ranging from children under 10 years old to seniors - were taken into isolation at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
