CANADA: Police treating threat to poison food in Chinatown as hate crime

The Toronto police hate crimes unit is investigating a threat to poison food in Toronto's Chinatown.
Spokesman Const. Tony Vella says police are taking seriously a threat contained in a letter to Toronto's Chinese Business Association.
The letter, received on Tuesday, warned that rat poison would be spread on meat, fish, fruit and vegetables being sold in Chinatown.
Purporting to come from Animal Liberation of USA and Canada, the letter also claimed that a “head Office” in the U.S. would be supplying E. coli bacteria.
The Chinese Business Association says they have received hundreds of hateful letters since Toronto passed a shark fin ban in October, but none as serious or violent as this one.
