from a press release
TORONTO - Taco Bell Canada announced this evening that it has voluntarily removed green onions from all of its 182 restaurants across Canada following ongoing investigations regarding recent E.coli outbreaks believed to be linked to several of its restaurants in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
At this time, no incidents have occurred in Canada. Taco Bell learned this evening that some of its restaurants in parts of Canada use green onions from similar supply sources from the U.S.
"The health and safety of our customers and employees is of paramount importance to Taco Bell Canada," said Jon Prinsell, president of Yum! Canada, operator of Taco Bell Canada. "As a precautionary voluntary measure, we have made the decision to take immediate action and remove green onions from all our restaurants in Canada until we know conclusively the root cause of the E.coli outbreak in the U.S. We are working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency throughout this investigation." The company works closely with its suppliers to ensure its products are safe and meet the highest standards. Taco Bell Canada customers and employees with any questions are encouraged to call the Taco Bell Canada customer hotline at 1-866-664-5696.
