Number of E. coli cases up to 22

The Calgary Health Region was cited as saying the number of people sickened by E. coli has risen to 22 and more cases are possible, with most of the patients teenagers and people in their 20s and 30s.

Health officials were further cited as saying they believe many of the patients were exposed to the bacteria at two separate eateries, likely between Sept. 3 and 12.

District inspectors are working with the eateries to review their food handling practices while the Canadian Food Inspection Agency investigates the possibility a food product is the source.
