Guelph, Ont. -- Police have arrested a Guelph woman after an investigation into sewing needles discovered last week in Schneiders luncheon meats and wieners at a supermarket.
The 41-year-old woman, who is charged with one count of common nuisance, was being held in custody for an appearance in bail court today.
Early last week, a customer of a No Frills grocery store discovered a needle in a package of Schneiders turkey luncheon meat.
Store management and investigators from city police and the CFIA checked almost 340 luncheon meat packages and related meat products in the refrigerator unit where the original tampered product was found. They discovered 13 sewing needles in 12 packages of luncheon meats and wieners.
