Digby -- The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has closed Nova Scotia's Annapolis Basin to shellfish harvesting because of bacteriological contamination.
DFO says harvesting bi-valve and gastropod molluscs for recreational and commercial purposes is prohibited until further notice.
The shellfish includes oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, quahogs and whelks.
The department says high bacteriological counts have had an adverse effect on shellfish growing in the area.
