Posting of online results only days away
Public health officials say they're only days away from starting to post inspection results for Sarnia-Lambton's restaurants online.
A DineSafe Lambton website has been created and is being tested before going live, according to Andrew Taylor, Lambton County's general manager of public health services.
The website is the final step in implementing the DineSafe Program that began in October when restaurants and other food establishments in Lambton County began posting colour-coded inspection results signs at their entrances.
"What we're hoping for is early June," Chad Ikert, the county's manager of environmental health and prevention services, said about the website launch.
"So far, the testing has been going good and it's doing everything it needs to do."
Once it operating, the website will allow members of the public to check an food establishment's most recent inspection results before they head out to eat.
The website is also designed to work with smart phones and other mobile devices, Ikert said.
Since DineSafe was introduced in the fall, inspectors have made initial visits to 90% of the 870 food premises in Lambton, according to a report to county council.
There were no red signs issued during that time. They're posted when inspectors close down an establishment because of an immediate health hazard to the public.
There were 11 yellow conditional pass signs issued because inspectors uncovered "significant non-compliance" with food safety rules.
The report says all 11 establishments were inspected again and the problems corrected.
