Grant applications for the On-Farm Food Safety program now being accepted
by: Government of Alberta | Nov 2nd, 2010
Growing Forward On-Farm Food Safety Program (Producers)
The Growing Forward On-Farm Food Safety Producer program is a grant program targeted at Alberta producers, horticultural packers and honey producer graders actively engaged in a crop or livestock operation with a market value production exceeding $10,000 annually. Producer projects supported by this program are on a cost-shared basis.
The grants may be applied to any of the 19 nationally recognized, commodity-specific on-farm food safety programs. In order to participate, applicants must submit a work plan that outlines how they intend to implement or improve an on-farm food safety program in their operation. The work plan application form has been revised since the initial launch of the program; producers must use the updated version to be eligible for the new funds.
Food safety, a priority for Alberta’s agriculture industry, starts with the primary producer. By implementing good production practices to effectively reduce potential contamination, along with documenting and verifying those practices, is highly valued throughout the agriculture value-chain.
Growing Forward
Growing Forward is a federal-provincial-territorial initiative that better positions the agriculture industry for success. The national vision is “a profitable and innovative agriculture, agri-food and agri-products industry that seizes opportunities in responding to market demands, and contributes to the health and well-being of Canadians”.
Together, the governments of Canada and Alberta are investing $273 million over five years (2009-2013) for flexible and innovative programs for Alberta’s agriculture industry. Alberta’s Growing Forward goal is a stronger value-chain that thinks locally and grows globally.
There are 23 programs organized into 12 areas.
Alberta is also responsible for Growing Forward’s Business Risk Management programs delivered by Agriculture Financial Service Corporation.
