ONTARIO: E. coli cases in Niagara, Halton, Waterloo linked

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care says 20 confirmed E. coli cases in
Niagara, Halton and Waterloo Regions are linked.
The ministry says laboratory testing has determined that cases in the three health
units have the same DNA fingerprint.
There are 15 confirmed cases in Niagara, three in Halton and two in Waterloo.
Another 71 cases - 40 in Niagara and 31 in Halton - remain under investigation.
The cases in Niagara and Halton have been linked to restaurants in
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Welland and Burlington.
The ministry says the source of the E. coli has not been identified.
Earlier this week, Dr. Robin Williams, Niagara's chief medical officer of health,
said tainted lettuce could be the source.
