Officials at the West Edmonton Mall's World Waterpark have, according to this story, been ordered to clean up their act after dirt, scum, algae, mold and debris were found on decks, stairs and railings.
Gary Hanson, the general manager of mall, one of Alberta's biggest tourist attractions, was cited as saying the park's water is so clean he'd drink it himself, adding, "You bet I would, without a doubt," and that he is "shocked" that the Capital Health Region issued a three-page letter ordering the facility be fixed up.
Environment health officer Dennis Chu was quoted as saying in the order that, "The facility and equipment were not being maintained in a clean and sanitary condition."
Dirt, algae and debris were also noted on the pool bottoms; litter and sewage stench were found at the top of the Twister slide; and scum and tomato ketchup were discovered on the sides of the Twister slide flume.
A number of other violations of the Public Health Act included a dirty kitchen area and strong sewage odour in the men's washroom.
