HEALTH HAZARD ALERT - BLACK DIAMOND BRAND FAT-FREE MOZZARELLA PROCESSED CHEESE SLICES MAY CONTAIN SMALL PIECES OF PLASTIC MESH

OTTAWA, January 23, 2009 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the
public not to consume Black Diamond brand Fat-free Mozzarella processed cheese
slices described below. The affected product may contain small pieces of plastic
mesh material embedded within and may pose a choking hazard.

The affected product was sold in 500 g (24 slice) packages bearing a best before
date of 
09 AU 09 REG1411 and the UPC code 0 68200 88837 8.

This product was produced by Parmalat in Belleville, ON and distributed nationally. 

There have been two consumer complaints associated with this issue.

Parmalat Canada is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. 

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

DANGER POUR LA SANTÉ - LE FROMAGE MOZZARELLA SANS GRAS EN TRANCHES DE MARQUE BLACK DIAMOND PEUT CONTENIR DES PETITS MORCEAUX DE FILET DE PLASTIQUE

OTTAWA, le 23 janvier 2009 - L'Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments (ACIA)
avise la population de ne pas consommer le fromage mozzarella sans gras en tranches
de marque Black Diamond décrit ci-dessous. En effet, des petits morceaux de filet de
plastique peuvent se trouver dans le produit et peuvent poser un danger
d'étouffement. 

Le produit touché a été vendu en emballages de 500 g (24 tranches) portant la date «
Meilleur avant » du 09 AU 09 REG1411 et le CUP 0 68200 88837 8.

Le fromage visé a été produit par Parmalat à Belleville (Ontario) et distribué à
l'échelle nationale. 

Deux plaintes ont été déposées par des consommateurs concernant ce produit.

Parmalat Canada retire volontairement du marché le produit visé. L'ACIA surveille
l'efficacité du rappel.
