CORRECTED HEALTH HAZARD ALERT - CERTAIN FRESH EXPRESS BRAND ROMAINE-BASED SALADS MAY CONTAIN SALMONELLA BACTERIA

OTTAWA, May 26, 2010 - The public warning issued on May 25, 2010 has been updated to
identify the correct product names, weights and UPCs for the affected products.
Corrections are identified by an asterisk (*) in the table below.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume the
Fresh Express brand Romaine-based Salads described below because these products may
be contaminated with Salmonella. 

This CFIA alert has been initiated in response to a recall by the manufacturer,
Fresh Express Incorporated, of Salinas, California in the United States.

The following Fresh Express brand Romaine-based Salads which have Use-by / Best
Before Dates of May 13 through May 16 and an "S" in the product code are affected
by this alert:

The Use-By / Best Before date is found in the upper right hand corner of the package
with the product code immediately underneath.

These products have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario
and Quebec and may have been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these
products.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of
food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. 
In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems,
salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise
healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever,
severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term
complications may include severe arthritis.

The CFIA will be working with Canadian importers to remove all of the affected
products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the
recall.

OTTAWA, le 26 mai 2010 - La mise en garde publique diffusée le 25 mai 2010 a été
mise à jour pour tenir compte des corrections apportées aux noms usuels, aux formats
et aux CUPs des produits touchés. Les corrections sont identifiés par un astérisque
(*) dans le tableau ci-dessous.

L'Agence canadienne d=inspection des aliments (ACIA) avise la population de ne pas
consommer les salades à base de laitue romaine de la marque Fresh Express décrites
ci-dessous parce que ces produits pourraient être contaminés par la Salmonella.

L'ACIA a émis cette mise en garde en réponse à un rappel effectué par le fabricant,
Fresh Express Incorporated, situé à Salinas, en Californie (États-Unis).

Les salades à base de laitue romaine de la marque Fresh Express ci-dessous, dont la
date 
« meilleur avant » va du 13 au 16 mai et dont le code du produit comprend un « S »,
sont visées par cette mise en garde :

La date « meilleur avant » se trouve dans le coin supérieur droit de l'emballage et
le code du produit est indiqué immédiatement en-dessous. 

Ces produits ont été distribués en Colombie-Britannique, en Alberta, au Manitoba, en
Ontario et au Québec et pourraient l'avoir été à l'échelle nationale. 

Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n'a été signalé.

Les aliments contaminés par Salmonella ne présentent pas nécessairement d'altération
visible ni d'odeur suspecte. La consommation d'aliments contaminés par cette
bactérie peut causer la salmonellose, une maladie d'origine alimentaire. Chez les
jeunes enfants, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système immunitaire est
affaibli, la salmonellose peut causer des infections graves, parfois mortelles. Chez
les personnes en bonne santé, la salmonellose peut se manifester par des symptômes
de courte durée comme une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, des vomissements,
des nausées, des douleurs abdominales et de la diarrhée. La salmonellose peut
entraîner des complications à long terme comme une forme grave d'arthrite.

L'ACIA travaille avec les importateurs canadiens afin de retirer tous les produits
visés du marché. L'ACIA surveille l'efficacité du rappel.
