HEALTH HAZARD ALERT - VARIOUS STORE-MADE SANDWICHES AND PARTY TRAYS INCLUDING FRESH 2 GO (F2GO) PRODUCTS MAY CONTAIN LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES

OTTAWA, September 5, 2008 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Metro
Ontario Inc. are warning the public not to consume the sandwiches and party trays
described below because these products may be contaminated with Listeria
monocytogenes. 

The following products with "PKGD on" dates up to and including "08.SE.4" (September
4, 2008) are affected by this alert:

These products have been distributed in Ontario through selected A & P, Dominion,
The Barn, Ultra, and Loeb stores.

This recall is being initiated as these products contain one of the cheese products
recalled by Ivanhoe Cheese Inc., Madoc, ON. There have been no reported illnesses
associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled.
Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause listeriosis, a
foodborne illness. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck
stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune
systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a
mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature
delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

Metro Ontario Inc., Toronto, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected products from
the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Ces produits ont été distribués en Ontario dans certains magasins A&P, Dominion, The
Barn, Ultra et Loeb.

Ces produits font l'objet d'un rappel parce que les sandwichs en question
contiennent un des fromages retirés du marché par Ivanhoe Cheese Inc. de Madoc
(Ontario). Aucun cas de maladie associé à la consommation de ces produits n'a été
signalé. 

Les aliments contaminés par Listeria monocytogenes ne présentent pas nécessairement
d'altération visible ni d'odeur suspecte. La consommation d'aliments contaminés par
cette bactérie peut causer la listériose, une maladie d'origine alimentaire qui peut
entraîner une forte fièvre, des maux de tête violents, une raideur de la nuque et
des nausées. Les femmes enceintes, les gens âgés et les personnes dont le système
immunitaire est affaibli sont particulièrement vulnérables. Dans le cas de la femme
enceinte, l'infection peut n'occasionner que de légers troubles pseudo-grippaux,
mais l'enfant qu'elle porte risque d'être infecté, de naître prématurément ou de
mourir avant la naissance.

Metro Ontario Inc., de Toronto en Ontario, retire volontairement du marché les
produits touchés. L'ACIA surveille l'efficacité du rappel.
