Macadamia nuts distributed in British Columbia and Alberta have been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination, according to the federal food inspection agency.

The recall applies to Dan-D Pak raw macadamia nuts, in 100-gram packages, with the UPC 7 70795 52260 4 and product codes PDD: 2025.NO.06 BB: 2026.NO.06

“This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency test results. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product,” a notice from the agency said.

The CFIA is warning consumers that food contaminated with salmonella may not “look or smell spoiled” but that the bacteria can pose serious and fatal risks, particularly for young children, pregnant women, seniors, and those who are immuno-compromised.

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis,” the recall notice said.

Individuals who bought the recalled nuts are urged to throw them out or return them to the store they were purchased from. Businesses are being told not to sell or use the product.

“The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products,” the recall notice said.

“The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.”
